Deaf Learners on the Autism Spectrum (3 credits)
Deaf and hard of hearing students with Autism Spectrum disorders have unique learning characteristics that present challenges in a variety of settings for teachers, parents, and caregivers. This course will address the specific characteristics and learning needs of Deaf and hard of hearing students with Autism Spectrum disorders with a communication perspective and offer strategies for dealing with a variety of situations in different environments. A collaborative approach that addresses solutions to increase effectiveness in the area of Home/School Continuum will be provided.

Teaching Latino Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children (3 credits)

Latino deaf and hard of hearing students now make up 24.5% of all school-age deaf and hard of hearing students. A majority of these children are from Spanish-speaking homes, and many are immigrants. Teachers and other service providers are often at a loss as to what to do to meet the needs of these students. This is a unique course offering. The course includes an overview of Latinos in the U.S. and of the Latino deaf community. It addresses critical topics relating to the education of Latino deaf and hard of hearing students.
Tuition: $690 (3 PST credits); $1,989 (3 graduate credits)
Prerequisites:
BA/BS degree.
Class Format:
High-speed connection access is highly recommended and a home computer is preferable to assure weekly assignments. Requires interaction with other students in course through online discussion and regular communication with instructor.
